The Lakes - Luxury Glamping East Anglia
This area was once a working gravel pit, all work stopped here in 2015. Since then we have restored the area to nature and created a beautiful wildlife haven with seventy five acres of lakes, woodland walks and wildflower meadows.
Four traditional style shepherd's huts and two yurts can sleep up to 22 people in total; each unit has private facilities and two have their own kitchens. Sleeping accommodation is centred around the Nest - our communal safari tent set on elevated decking overlooking the main 8 acre lake with a definite wow factor!
The Lakes is great for couples or families wanting to get away from it all but can also be rented exclusively as a fantastic place for groups of friends and family to celebrate a special occasion, to relax and have fun in incredible surroundings.
Due to the lack of barriers between the site and the water we don’t feel The Lakes is suitable for children below the age of 5 or for those children who can’t swim.
All accommodation is spaced out to give you plenty of room to relax and unwind.
Mallard and Teal Huts
These huts each sleep two in a double bed and are set about 30m apart. They both have a private shower and flushing loo next to the hut.
Each hut has its own kitchen shelter with cooking facilities including sink, gas stove, Cobb BBQ and Kadai fire pit making them ideal if you want to completely isolate from everybody else on site.
Alternatively if you are coming as a larger group you can share the outdoor kitchen and communal facilities in the Nest.
The huts are kitted out with all glasses, crockery, utensils and pans you need to cook up simple camping fare.
They have cool boxes and ice blocks that can be frozen in the communal fridge freezers.
We have two bell tents that can be pitched near these huts to provide sleeping accommodation for up to 4 children on inflatable beds.
Pheasant Shepherd Hut - A cosy traditional style hut, sleeping two in a doule bed. This hut lies nestled against a group of trees overlooking the largest lake. It has its own private loo and shower abiout 20m away. There's a small camping stove, cool box and firepit for essentials such as late night hot chocolate and toasting s'mores. Everything else you need to rustle up a delicious meal can be found in one of the kitchen areas in the Nest
Pheasant hut lies to one side of the site and if booked in conjunctiion with Barn Owl hut and Kingfisher yurt would make a good area for a larger group.
Barn Owl Shepherd Hut (the bunky hut) - this hut sleeps four in one double and two full sized bunks. It is situated at one one end of our site, in a little clearing of its own with stunning views of the lake. It has private use of one half of Aquarius, our shower hut on wheels, that lies a short distance away. Like all our huts there's a wood burner, deck chairs and picnic bench outside along with a fire pit. Cooking facilities are in the Nest but we provide a small camping gas stove and cool box for an early morning cup of tea.
Why is East Anglia such a good place to go Glamping?
Activities at The Lakes
Whether you are coming to simply relax, finish that book you’ve had on the go for weeks, thrash your partner at backgammon or something altogether more active we have space for everyone at The Lakes.
We have three jetties dotted along the lakeside; perfect for going wild swimming, setting sail on our small Topper, or trying out one of our paddle boards.
Alternatively you may prefer to stick to solid ground and with 75 acres to explore not counting the rest of the farm you will not be disappointed.
We have created a nature reserve you are free to explore, grazed by Welsh mountain ponies. It follows the river and you may even spot a kingfisher flitting along the banks. We have numerous waterfowl - our current residents include several swans, flocks of graylag and Canada geese, waders and oyster catchers. As well as waterfowl we have owls, skylarks, warblers and other songbirds.
In essence the Lakes is a place to relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors with the comfort of home.
Communal Space - The Nest
We think the communal safari tent is what makes our site so special. Set in an elevated position it commands a fantastic view of the lake and whole site. The covered porch has plenty of deckchairs and bean bags on which to relax.
Inside you will find comfy leather sofas, a wood burner to ward off any evening chill, throws to snuggle under and board games galore.
Dining tables with seating for over twenty are in the middle whilst at the back with easy access to the outdoor cooking shelter lie two kitchen areas. These are extremely well equipped and will enable you to prepare meals with most of the comforts of your own kitchen at home.
Embrace your wild cook! A covered area houses a wood fired pizza oven and two large fire bowls that serve as versatile BBQs. If you're feeling adventurous cook over wood, if not feel free to bring your own charcoal.A gas plancha is provided for speedier cooking, ideal for a large fry up at breakfast time.
