The Lakes - Luxury Glamping East Anglia

Luxury Glamping East Anglia at the lakes

This area was once a working gravel pit, all work stopped here in 2015 and since then we have restored the area to nature and created a beautiful wildlife haven.

It consists  of 75 acres of wilderness with lakes, riverside trails, wooded areas and a wildflower meadow.

We currently have four huts sleeping 10 people between them, we can supplement this with three bell tents so in total can accommodate 25.

The huts are centred around a communal area - the Nest - a safari tent set on elevated decking overlooking the main 8 acre lake. The Nest has a definite wow factor!

As well as being great for couples wanting to get away, this site lends itself particularly well to group bookings, whether it’s a family gathering or groups of friends getting together. Due to the lack of barriers between the site and the water we don’t feel The Lakes is suitable for children below the age of 5 or for those children who can’t swim.

We have four huts, two have their own kitchen areas, private facilities with a flushing loo and shower shack adjacent to their hut.The other two use the Nest as their kitchen and have use of Aquarius - an enclosed shower hut with flushing loo- that is sited a maximum of 30m from your hut. Each hut has private use of one side of Aquarius.

Mallard and Teal are set about 30m apart on one side of The Nest whilst Pheasant, Barn Owl and Aquarius are similarly spaced on the other side. We have tried to keep each hut as secluded as possible whilst retaining some element of a link between them. They can be booked individually, in pairs or all four as a group booking. Each hut has ample space around it to accommodate a bell tent for extra beds if needed.

Mallard Shepherd Hut - a traditional style shepherd’s hut with a cosy wood burner and covered veranda set overlooking the largest lake. This hut sleeps two in a double bed.  You will have private use of the flushing loo and shower situated at the back of the hut. Facilities  include a covered kitchen area with sink, camping gas hob, cool box plus ice blocks, glasses, crockery, cutlery and all the cooking utensils you will need. There’s a small table and chairs on the veranda and also a picnic bench by the kitchen shelter.

Al fresco cooking is done on your own Kadai firebowl next to your hut. Alternatively you may wish to join together with others and cook in the Nest, around the larger communal fire pit or wood fired pizza oven. Shared fridges and ice compartments are available for you to use in The Nest, which is set about 50m away.

Teal Shepherd Hut - a traditional style shepherd’s hut with a cosy wood burner and covered veranda set overlooking the largest lake.

Shared fridges and ice compartments are available for you to use in The Nest, which is set about 70m away.

Pheasant Shepherd Hut - a traditional style shepherd’s hut with a cosy wood burner and covered veranda that lies nestled against a group of trees overlooking the largest lake. This hut sleeps two in a double bed. You will have private use of one half of Aquarius, a fully enclosed shower hut and flushing loo that is about 30m away. Bath mats and hand towels are provided here but as with all huts at The Lakes you will need to bring your own towels for bathing and swimming.

Although Pheasant does not have its own cooking area it does have a coolbox, a Kadai firebowl and seating along with a picnic bench for food preparation. Apart from this, everything you need to prepare a delicious al fresco feast can be found inside The Nest which is 40m away.

Barn Owl Shepherd Hut (the bunky hut) - this hut sleeps four in one double and two bunks and is aimed mainly at families with smaller children. It has a wood burner, external seating with a picnic bench and its own fire pit. It is situated at one one end of our site, in a little clearing of its own with stunning views of the lake. This hut is set only 10m from the shower hut and will have private use of one side of the shower hut.

There is plenty of space for at least two bell tents near to Barn Owl.

Extra Bell tents - measure 5m in diameter and sleep between 4-5 people depending on size. We will provide matting on the floor, inflatable airbeds and the obligatory bunting and fairy lights. You will just need to bring your own pillows, bedding and towels. If you hire an extra bell tent they will share your kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Hot tub for hire

Although the huts at The Lakes do not have their own hot tub, we have a mobile tub, so you are able to hire a two person wood fired hot tub for just one night or the duration of your stay. Perfect for relaxing at the end of the day, amazing to lie back in the warm water whilst watching the stars.

The Nest

We think our communal safari tent is what makes this site so special. Set in an elevated position it commands a fantastic view of the lake and whole site. The covered porch has plenty of deckchairs and bean bags on which to relax.

Inside you will find comfy leather sofas, a wood burner to ward off any evening chill, throws to snuggle under and board games galore.

Dining tables with seating for over a dozen are in the middle whilst at the back with easy access to the outdoor cooking shelter lie two kitchen areas. These are extremely well equipped and will enable you to prepare meals with most of the comforts of your own kitchen at home.

Communal Cooking area

We have a covered cooking area that houses our wood fired pizza oven and large BBQ fire pit. It is also equipped with a large external sink and food prep table for pizzas.

Activities at The Lakes

Whether you are coming to simply relax, finish that book you’ve had on the go for weeks, thrash your partner at backgammon or something altogether more active we have space for everyone at The Lakes.

We have three jetties dotted along the lakeside; perfect for going wild swimming, setting sail on our small Topper, or trying out one of our paddle boards.

Alternatively you may prefer to stick to solid ground and with 75 acres to explore not counting the rest of the farm you will not be disappointed.

We have created a nature reserve you are free to explore, grade by Welsh mountain ponies. It follows the river and you may even spot a kingfisher flitting along the banks. We have numerous waterfowl - our current residents include 12 swans, flocks of graylag and Canada geese, waders and oyster catchers. As well as waterfowl we have  owls, skylarks, warblers and other songbirds.

In essence the Lakes is a place to relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors with the comfort of home.
